Early Light

Born in 1956 in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in the vibrant cultural landscape of Chicago, LS grew up surrounded by the energy, rhythm, and complexity that later shaped his artistic eye. Though he was not formally trained as a photographer, the environments that nurtured him — from the South’s rich cultural roots to Chicago’s dynamic streets — sparked a quiet but powerful creative instinct. His early life became the lens through which he would eventually capture the world: observant, intimate, and deeply human.

Street Frames

As an artist, LS created imagery that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the work of masters like Gordon Parks. Photography may not have been his profession, but it was undeniably his calling. Most of his images centered on family, friends, and the people who filled his daily life — a reflection of how LS used his camera not just as a tool, but as a bridge. For him, photography was a way to connect, to be present, and to share moments with the people he loved. His work reveals a natural storyteller, someone who found poetry in ordinary moments and dignity in everyday people.

Memory Prints

LS’s passing in 2020 marked the end of his physical journey but not the end of his voice. His absence left a quiet ache among those who knew him and those who would later come to know him through his work. In the wake of his death, a box of his images — slides, prints, and digital pieces — was entrusted to the next generation, offering a window into the soul of an artist who photographed with intention, patience, and heart. These preserved moments now serve as a reminder of his warmth, humor, and unmistakable perspective.

Legacy & Continuation

This page exists to ensure that LS’s legacy continues to live, grow, and inspire. By sharing his work publicly, his vision reaches new audiences who may never have had the chance to meet him, but can feel him through the stories his images tell. To honor both his memory and the spirit with which he lived, half of all proceeds from print sales are donated to the American Heart Association. This living memorial stands as a testament to the beauty he saw, the community he cherished, and the timeless power of his eye. LS may no longer be here, but through his images, he never truly leaves us.
